The Peck
A peck is basically putting your two lips together and kissing somebody without opening your mouth or exchanging any (or much), saliva.
The light peck on the cheek is usually a very safe form of kiss, and can be used in the non-romantic sense for a greeting or a farewell. It is only when you kiss somebody on the lips with a peck that it will be a demonstration of romanticism. It will also mean that you are not trying to show too much interest too fast with your new dating partner. However, family members often peck-kiss on the lips to show their love for one another.
Closed Mouth Kiss
A closed mouth kiss is an extension of the peck. It is where you kiss somebody for a little longer than just giving them a peck. Closed mouth kisses are soft and juicy, and last for a couple of seconds with both participants taking the time to explore each others lips before pulling away and starting again.
Closed mouth kisses are sweet, and send the message that you are very much into your kissing partner. Closed mouth kisses are a prelude to French kisses, because you want to find out more about your kising partner. Closed mouth kisses are performed so you don’t move too fast too soon and scare your kissing partner away!
